2018-2019 Season

President’s Message

We, your Greater Charlotte USBC board members, would like to welcome you back to the 2018-2019 bowling season. We are excited about the upcoming season and look forward to better serving you this year.

The tournament schedule is almost complete. We hope to see an increase in participation, as we continue to refine tournament formats, increase bowling center announcements, and better utilize our social media platforms to keep everyone informed. We appreciate all the candid feedback and are vigorously working on making meaningful changes.

Our work with the local youth bowlers continues to develop and grow the sport. Last year we ran three tournaments dedicated to the junior bowlers in the forms of a youth/adult, holiday singles, and championship tournament. Participation was up considerably year-over-year, as a direct result of the efforts put forth by the youth commitee.

The association commitment to both local and national charities remains strong. We contributed $4,077.00 to BVL (Bowlers for Verterans Link money stays in Charlotte to help provide services to our local veterans) and $3,333.00 to Susan G. Komen last year.

One thing we wanted to make sure everyone was aware of, was the possibility of a dues increase NEXT YEAR: beginning in the fall of 2019. At the annual meeting in Las Vegas this subject was a topic of hot debate. Something worth noting is that it has been 12 years since we have had a LOCAL dues increase. Dues at the local level go towards funding awards, board expenses, annual meetings, and advertisement to name a few. (Please note that all members of the board are volunteers, with one exception, the Association Manager). We will continue to keep you up to date on this situation.

Lastly, it has come to the board's attention that there has been some speculation of a misappropriation of funds, by the boards previous Association Manager. In an attempt to provide transparency, we are sorry to say, these allegations are true. The board is currently working with both local authorities and our national headquarters to explore all avenues for both criminal and civil prosecution. Our number one concern is recovering all funds.

While controls were in place, they were systematically manipulated, by the person in question, in attempts to elude detection. Subsequently, the board, with the help of the national governing body, have put additional strict controls in place, to insure that this does not happen again in the future. These additional controls include yearly external audits, internal quarterly audits by the Audit Committee, as well as revocation of the board's credit card.

We apologize to all the members of the association for any distrust or anger this may have created between yourselves and the board. We are all very committed to making sure this issue is resolved, with all resposible parties being held accountable, and monies returned.

With that being said, all the members of your Greater Charlotte USBC Board are looking forward to an excellent 2018-2019 season. We hope you are as excited as we are! See you all on the lanes!

Respectfully,

Priscilla Hamilton, President

Greater Charlotte USBC
